Soul Dance

  intentions of the practice

Embodiment

Soul Dance is an opportunity to come home to the body.  aliveness, and the present moment.  Dance invites us out of the cultural habit of living in our head, to bringing awareness to our WHOLE selves.  The aliveness of our body, its rhythms and flow,  the wisdom of the heart and voice of intuition, the invitations in the tender places that might be calling for our care.

Coming home to the body can also be a coming home to Earth, a remembrance of our connectedness, through this very breath and living experience, which is a theme often touched upon in the meditations, or the music.

Self Care

We aspire to hold for ourselves and each other a nonjudgemental, and compassionate space, that welcomes us as we are, and allows us the freedom to explore and express ourselves.   You are encouraged to move in your body's way, with care for your comfort and needs.  To support this dance as a self-care practice, this is not a space for partner dancing or contact improv.

Wholeness

Soul dance intentionally spans a wide spectrum of emotion in the music played.  Creating space to give voice to parts of ourselves there is not always room for in our days and roles, letting us expand into a wider sense of who we are, or might be.   Dance is a place where we can move with and through the bigger feelings of life, both shadow and light.  Where we can feel and express through movement the wildness, the weight, the ache, the joy, the strength and the softness, of this human experience.  And dance is a place where we can be undefined and unscripted.  We include meditation in our practice to make space for the part of our wholeness that is awake awareness, beneath the everchanging flow of emotion and sensation.
